MBACP Accred
I am a BACP accredited psychotherapist with 10 years experience. I have a special interest in how childhood experiences can continue to affect us in adult life. You may be going through a particularly difficult situation: separation, trauma, or other huge life change or you may just have the feeling that something isn’t quite right without knowing how or why. My approach is grounded in analytic theory though I am also influenced and have trained in attachment and trauma based approaches and work in a relational way.
I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, co-dependency, loss, bereavement, eating disorders, anger management, P.T.S.D, substance misuse, family breakdown, relationship issues, suicidal ideation, transgender issues, historic or present day abuse and many others.
I have a private practice in Brighton where I see clients once or twice weekly for short term or open ended therapy and I also see clients online.
I also have some concessions available for lower cost work with students or people on low incomes during the day both online, by telephone and face to face in Brighton.
I work mainly with adults but also work with children from the age of 13 to 16 and young adults (17 to 25). I have been a university counsellor for 4 years and have also worked in secondary schools. I also enjoy work with international clients via Zoom and Skype.

In the first half of life we all have to develop a strong enough sense of self to deal with parents, teachers, peers and so on. There are increasing circles of accountability as we move from childhood to adulthood and begin engaging in more levels of external reality. We need to form relationships outside the family and think about what career path we may wish to take. It’s all about building and strengthening the ego in order to be in the world in a productive way, which is essential.
This can be tricky to navigate and lead to various issues, one of which could be an over inflated ego that’s quite brittle and inflexible. Another could be an over identification with certain roles. ‘I am what I do or I am my relationships or I am what I’m told every day’ and sometimes especially around the time of being a young adult these belief systems, subject preferences or friendship groups may suddenly all change causing confusion and symptom formation. Anxiety, depression, mood swings, issues with the body, sleep disturbance and lethargy are all common during this period in a person’s life. I have a great deal of experience working with children and young people and can help with all of these issues.
